We offer online courses of 2 or 4 hours a week. We focus on conversation, grammar and a good time in class! We work with certified, native teachers. Read below what you will learn in every level.
In this level, you will build a strong foundation for the Dutch language. You will learn essential but straightforward vocabulary and gain insights into basic grammar. During the lessons we will touch on topics such as the present tense, correct usage of articles, prepositions and simple sentence structures. Moreover, at the end of this level, you will be able to apply what you have learned and formulate your first Dutch sentences. For example, to introduce yourself, talk about your family, describe your house and your hobbies.
Beginners plus A1-A2
This level is significant for mastering the essentials of Dutch grammar. On level A0-A1, you have learned the very basics of grammar. Now we will take grammar a step further. You will learn, among other things, about different tenses (present perfect, past tense), separable verbs, “niet/geen”, “om te + infinitief”, word order, conjugations, adjectives and “er is/ er zijn”’. You will get homework to study the theory and to practice the grammar rules. In class we will focus on answering questions, doing (speaking) exercises and applying the studied grammar rules.
We will talk about various daily situations, for example at the workplace, leisure time, weather, travelling, emotions, giving your opinion and asking for information. We will prepare you for home assignments like a short presentation or talking to Dutch people in your environment. Finally, during the classes you will learn new vocabulary and useful sentences.
In the Intermediate classes you will strengthen and deepen your grammatical knowledge, gained during the first two levels. Depending on the needs of the group, we will further elaborate on topics such as the “om + te infinitief”, word order and the various tenses. However, we will also introduce new grammatical subjects, such as, “zouden + infinitief” or “plusquamperfectum”.
We will talk about various daily situations. You will get assignments, e.g. to read. And we will help you prepare presentations about the news, a book or daily experiences. You will be asked to practice at home, to watch Dutch programs, talk to Dutch people or write a short text. Of course we will prepare for that and reflect on it in class. During the classes you will also learn new vocabulary and useful sentences.
Intermediate plus B1-B2
We will rehearse difficult parts of grammar, like passives, usage of “er”, different tenses (including plusquamperfectum) and word order. Homework will be studying the grammar before class or/and doing an assignment like preparing a presentation or writing a text using the grammar rules. In class, we will focus on answering questions and doing speaking exercises in which you apply the grammar rules.
We will talk about all kinds of situations, more personal or societal. Examples are personal goals and dreams, art, societal dilemmas and expressions. Conversations and exercises are playful and fun, yet focused on using an extensive vocabulary. Expanding your vocabulary outside class is also very important for this level. Homework will consist of texts to read, preparing a presentation or practicing conversations outside of class. In class, you will be invited to improvise during the discourses.
